Alan Fletcher, aka Neighbours’ Karl Kennedy, has recently shown off the results of hair regrowth after suffering with a serious case of alopecia.
The actor, who starred in the long-running Australian soap for almost 30 years, appeared on TV with a head of silver hair and a full beard.
However, just a few months ago, the 66-year-old had revealed he was left completely bald after his hair fell out, including his eyebrows and eyelashes.
He told the Loose Women panel: “Last February it started, patchy hair loss, I lost everything, eyebrows, eyelashes.”
The actor-cum-musician said his doctor put it down to a virus that began to attack his hair, but he has been put on immuno-suppressants, which he believes has helped stem the alopecia and encourage hair regrowth.
Fletcher has been vocal about his hair loss, keeping his 87,700 Instagram followers updated about his progress.
In February this year, he revealed he got his beard trimmed after his hair began to grow back.
“After losing all my hair to #alopecia 12 months ago, lovely to be back at the barber for a beard trim in #dublin. Thanks #mario. Perfetto!,” he wrote on social media.
Not everyone with alopecia makes such a successful recovery. Out of the celebrities who have suffered with the condition, Gail Porter, Jada Pinkett Smith and Matt Lucas have embraced their baldness.
However, many people find it difficult to accept their premature hair loss, which is why they seek treatment to encourage regrowth, much like Fletcher.
There are many types of treatments for alopecia, so it is worth seeking advice from a hair loss specialist in London for more information and guidance about what would be best for you.
